I feel really old.
I've just been looking back at more older emotes from when I was twelve: reminiscing on the old days. It kind of looks like... that nothing has really changed. I might even say that the animations were better and more fluent, the expressions as well, and even the shading, which has only been modified slightly (I still love `darkmoon3636's 'central' or 'illow' shading and wonderful use of colours) looked better back then. My :tardfire: emote still remains on of my favourites.

Ever since `darkmoon3636 left dA, my inspiration levels remain lower. I adored her shading, and that sort of encouraged my present shading and emotes/animations today.

The emoticon community is great as well... but it was also different back then. There were way less projects. Emotes were made for solely MSN purposes, and only the few odd ones weren't. Now, their are ones with backgrounds: some which I wouldn't call emotes, or even pixel art to that matter.

Anyways, I'm probably just grumpy from being tired. So, I might go to sleep and see if I feel better the next morning. :V

Anyways, I am racist sometimes. But always as a joke. Living in Australia, it's normal to make light racist jokes without doing any harm. I go to a very multicultural school in Australia: 60% is asian, despite Australia being a predominantly white society.

Do you have any suggestions for aspiring pixel artists?
Yes. Keep making art helps. But most the help comes from looking a great pixel art and taking a closer look at it; you know, drag into Photoshop/Fireworks/you're program and zoom it. Take note of the dithering, the shading, the lines, and especially the colours. Colour is important in pixel art. Lines come first obviously, but colour comes close to it. Dithering should only be used as a last resort. Colours are there so you can get the perfect balance and harmony of shading, and create a mellow colour palette.
Pixel art is much like drawing and painting.

No I haven't. But really do want to. My parents, especially my dad, is critical of the American society, particularly the crime and snobbish society factor. They really don't want me to go. They say it's nothing different to where I live. Yeah right. As if Western Australia is just as boring as the US.
Next year though my school has selected me to go on an exchange to another prestigious school all around the world (cause I so smart. ). They said I'll be in UK or USA. Hopefully US...

Why did you choose to make emotes instead of big pretty pictures?
Well, when I joined dA, I was 11. I was alright at drawing, but I didn't really think I was good enough. I hadn't had much experience in painting either. My scanner was lousy as well. I thought I'd never be good at real art.
I can't remember exactly how I came across emotes, but I did. It was easy, so I took the opportunity. It turned to become progressively harder as you got better and become my favourite artform. Besides, now I have extensive knowledge of animation and pixel art, none of which I'd ever learnt before I started making emotes.
